The Destination background

The Maipo Valley is located just outside of modern Santiago and is a wonderful respite after your long haul flight; allowing for first class vineyards with the majestic Andes as a backdrop.

Torres del Paine is Chile's showpiece: a world biosphere reserve with all the diverse scenery of Alaska in only 180,000ha (444,600ac). With waterfalls, sprawling glaciers, dense forests, and the chance to see Patagonian guanaco, the South American Ostrich (Rhea) and if lucky, the majestic puma.

Easter Island is the most isolated, inhabited island in the world and is home to the magnificent Moai stone statues dating back to almost 1000 years.

Full Itinerary

  • Day 1. Santiago - Maipo (D)

    Arrival at Santiago de Chile airport, reception and private transfer to your idyllic location set in the Maipo Valley. The journey will take approximately 45 minutes by private car but is worth the journey as you are now in the heart of the Chilean wine country, and its fabulous undulating hills. Accommodation at the Hotel Casa Real, a beautiful hacienda mansion house. Relax and unwind after the long haul flight. Dinner and accommodation.

  • Day 2. Maipo (B & D)

    After breakfast, relax in the magnificent setting and grounds of this beautiful mansion house. Enjoy an afternoon wine tasting tour to the Santa Rita installations at Alto Jahuel.

    The tour will include a view of the wine making process and will include the tasting of two Super Premium wines (Cabernet Sauvignon & Sauvignon Blanc).

    Option to visit the Andino Museum in Santa Rita. Return to your hotel. Dinner and accommodation.

  • Day 3. Maipo - Santiago - Torres del Paine (B & D)

    After breakfast, return journey in a private car to Santiago airport for your flight to Punta Arenas, located on the very tip of the continent. Reception and transfer to Puerto Natales and into the heart of Torres Del Paine, Chilean Patagonia. This park is Chile's showpiece: a world biosphere reserve with all the diverse scenery of Alaska in only 180,000ha (444,600ac). The Torres Del Paine are spectacular granite pillars which soar almost vertically for more than 2000m (6560ft) above the Patagonian steppe. Cascading waterfalls, sprawling glaciers, dense forests, and the chance to see Patagonian guanaco make it a truly wonderful experience Accommodation in a Cordillera Paine Room ,with views of of Macizo del Paine for four nights at the Super Exclusive Explora resort in Torres Del Paine.

    Located on the shores of Lake Pehoe, this top quality hotel is situated in an indescribably beautiful location and combines top class accommodation with a wide range of tours to allow for a deeper appreciation of the beautiful Torres del Paine National Park (a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1978).

  • Day 4 - 6. Torres Del Paine (B, L & D)

    Each day, you may choose from between 5 different adventures out of a total of 21, depending upon weather conditions, guest preference, duration and degree of difficulty. Examples of tours include various treks on foot around the National Park to numerous lakes, glaciers and miradors, horse riding trips, trips by boat and trips by car. All explorations are with professional, bilingual guides in small groups. Exquisite gourmet meals with fine Chilean wine and an open bar is included for the entire stay at the hotel. The hotel also boasts an indoor heated swimming pool, sauna, massage rooms and open-air Jacuzzis.

  • Day 7. Torres Del Paine - Santiago (B)

    After breakfast, transfer back to Punta Arenas for your flight to Santiago. Transfer to your hotel, the Ritz Carlton Hotel.

  • Day 8. Santiago - Easter Islands (B & D)

    After breakfast, private transfer to the airport for your flight to Rapa Nui, otherwise known as the Easter Islands. The 5 hour flight will take you to the most isolated, inhabited island in the world. Reception and transfer to the Explora Posada de Mike Rapu. Accommodation in a classic room with ocean view.

    Located 2000 miles (3200 km) west of Chile and over 4000 km from Tahiti, Easter Islands is the most isolated, inhabited island in earth. Discovered by the Dutch in 1772, Admiral Jacob Roggeween landed there on Easter Sunday and gave the island its present name. He was the first European to describe the unusual statues carved from the volcanic rock from Rano Raraku. Standing as tall as 18 ft (5.5 m) and weighing up to 100 tons, the statues are known as moai, and each are supposed representations of clan chieftains. These moais, were placed on top of platforms called ahu, which in turn served as a family burial vault.

  • Day 9 - 10. Easter Islands (B, L & D)

    Each day, you may choose from between different adventures and excursions including the following: visiting Vaihu, where eight toppled Moai lie, Rano Raraku volcano, where the statues are half buried, Ahu Tongariki, where the largest Ahu (or platform) is located, Te Pito Kura (a large rock believed to have been brought from Tahiti) and Ahu Nau Nau (where the Moai are in particularly good condition). You may also visit the Anakena beach, the legendary landing place of Hotu Matua, the founder of Rapa Nui, Rano Kau volcano, site of ancient petroglyphs and the ceremonial temple of Iorongo, Vinapu (site of meticulous stonework found nowhere else on the islands) and Ahu Akivi, the famous seven Moais, believed to be one of the last built around 1460 and measuring 14 feet in height and weighing 12 metric tons.

  • Day 11. Easter Islands - Santiago (B)

    After breakfast, transfer to the airport for the return flight back to Santiago. Transfer to your hotel, the Ritz Calrton.

  • Day 12. Santiago (B)

    After breakfast, and dependent upon your return flight home, a short city tour including a visit to the Colonial Main Square, Church and the National Library before your transfer to the airport and your return flight home.
